CSSIW provides a citizen-centred approach which supports the improvement of care, early years and social services in Wales.  We do this by raising standards; improving the quality of services; promoting best practice and through regulation, inspection and development.  We also provide independent professional advice.
Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) was launched in April 2007. If you want to know more about CSSIW - our FAQ pages should help.

Our service regulation and inspection unit is responsible for regulating over 6,000 services, using the regulations and national minimum standards set by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Our local authority inspection and review unit promotes improvement through evaluating the quality and effectiveness of social services in all 22 local authorities. It works with other inspectorates and regulatory bodies in carrying out its work. Together with the Wales Audit Office it conducts joint reviews of local authority social services.

Our service analysis and improvement units for children and adults promote good practice and service development in social care and social services.  We provide professional advice on these matters.

We are responsible for managing two grant schemes:

We produce a wide range of reports and public information documents and leaflets.   Most of these can be downloaded from this website, or you can contact us and request hard copies.

We welcome your views on the service we provide. This website is currently being developed, but if you have any suggestions on how we can improve it, email us at cssiw@wales.gsi.gov.uk
